I retired from the practice of general internal medicine in 2013. A friend asked, “What are you going to do now?” “I’ll be a writer,” I said. During my 38 years of medical practice, I have written thousands of medical histories. My focus was helping patients actively participate in their medical care. This was captured in my book Self-Reliant Medicine. I had also served in leadership positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 26 years. I began a comprehensive study of the scriptures. I wanted to show how the word of God apples to everyday life. Out of this came a five-volume series called Lessons in Gospel Psychology. In 2013 I created a website DAVIDLDUFFYBOOKS.COM to make my books available. I am now pleased to present my full collection of books on this improved website.

The Way Things Ought To Be

In today’s world many things are wrong.  Evil exists.  Injustice exists.  People murmur, seek something for nothing, get angry, and even become violent.  People suffer from all manner of disease yet continue to indulge in habits which foster illness.  What can we do?  Is there a better way?  Yes, we should do everything in our power to make the world a better place.

As a physician I performed thousands of medical histories and physical examinations.  That involved much writing.  But the histories were not scribbled notes.  They were histories of real people who got into trouble with their bodies.  The stories involved men and women who dealt with conflict, suffering, and physical and psychological limitations.  Since I retired from medical practice in 2013, I have devoted my time to writing about the way things ought to be.  This includes a study of Harrison’s Textbook of Internal Medicine, an in-depth study of the Bible, as well as several novels and children’s stories. Since I was not interested in writing pop culture fiction books, I chose to self-publish with Amazon.  My books can be ordered directly from this website.
